OUR STORY
Sustainabled Academy began as a philosophy, not as another educational institution. That philosophy gradually evolved through years of professional practice, entrepreneurship, continuous learning, and the pursuit of better ways to understand and address the challenges shaping organizations and society.
It emerged from a way of thinking that gradually evolved through years of professional practice, entrepreneurship, continuous learning, and the pursuit of better ways to understand and address the challenges facing organizations and society.
The journey began with our founder, Somia Rokhgireh, through her work as an architect specializing in sustainable architectural design. As an architect, she collaborated across multiple disciplines, integrating structural, environmental, technical, social, economic, and many other disciplines and considerations into a coherent design while continually moving between the broader vision of a project and the details that bring it to life.
The sustainability lens further strengthened this integrative approach by looking beyond individual elements to the broader context in which they exist. Every design decision required considering the relationships between the project and its context, culture, the environment, economic conditions, and all other factors that continuously influence the project and are, in turn, influenced by it. It was a multidisciplinary and holistic way of thinking that sought to understand the whole before designing systems or improving their individual parts.
This perspective gradually extended beyond the design of buildings and evolved into a broader way of approaching challenges through understanding context, relationships, and the interconnected elements that shape long-term outcomes.
As Somia’s professional journey expanded through entrepreneurship, consulting, organizational improvement, and collaboration with leaders across different sectors, this perspective continued to be tested and refined through experience. Some initiatives delivered remarkable results, while others struggled despite good intentions. Over time, one observation consistently emerged. Solutions developed with an understanding of the system as a whole consistently produced more effective and long-lasting outcomes, while those approached in isolation often created unintended consequences or failed to deliver their intended impact. The same pattern appeared across organizations, where sustainability, operational performance, innovation, leadership, customer experience, organizational culture, and emerging technologies were frequently addressed as separate initiatives despite continuously influencing one another.
That observation gradually evolved into a broader philosophy.
The challenges shaping today’s world and organizational systems cannot be addressed through fragmented frameworks or isolated solutions. They require a way of thinking that understands the whole system, connects insights across disciplines, and takes an integrative approach to designing solutions.
